Hi Guys,

Have narrowed my choices down to the following 4 trucks, what do you guys reckon would be best bang for buck.

Duratrax Evader (169 American)

http://www.duratrax.com/cars/dtxd20.html

Losi XXX-T (249 American)

http://www.teamlosi.com/Products/Defaul ... D=LOSA0095

Traxxa Rustler XL-5 (159 American)

http://www.traxxas.com/products/electri ... ustler.htm

Team Associated RC10T4RTR (210 American)

https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/cgi- ... pn=ASC7021

All RTR as i dont want to be spendign money buying expensive esc's on top fo price etc.

CHeers

Shane

a big thing you should be thinking about is how easy it is to get parts. either of these would be good, I think duratrax seem to be quite cheap but from what i've seen they are reasonable quality.

usually RTR kits are not quite as higher spec as normal pro kits.(you'd have to check their websites for details)

if your worried about not spending to much, i'm sure there would be plently of second hand stuff floating around if you just ask. I can sort you out with radio gear for $40 if you like, its second hand but will work fine. i've also got an old acoms speed control you can have, just need new wires soldered on.

yeah i think losi, traxxas and team associated parts re all available locally.

i already have radio gear, only reason for going for RTR is a descent ESC and motor seems to be $150 on top of kit price.

have put an add in rollign chassis topic so will see what ppl have got for sale.

cheers

I haven't seen any NZ shops sell parts for any of these. Apparently Frankton in Hamilton can get Traxxas parts (but that's according to Supercheap Autos). Hobby Direct had a bunch of Losi kits listed, but they were perpetually out of stock.

I've never seen anyone sell Associated stuff.

The other thing to consider is that while some of these vehicles may have general brand support locally, the parts for your vehicle might not be available locally. If NZ suppliers have to order a part from overseas, 9 times out of 10, it's much quicker to order overseas yourself.

If you buy the kit locally (new), you should be safe. If you order the kit overseas and hope to have local support, you might be in for some frustration.

We did last season, but numbers dwindled after a few races. This season nobody turned up with electrics on the first round.

But nobody has the same sort of vehicle. There were 2WD and 4WD buggies, and trucks in the mix. I don't think we'll ever have the numbers to run specific classes (ie, 2WD buggy, 2WD truck) because everybody is into gas. Any new people that come up only see gas running.

We'll still run them if there are numbers, and we're considering running a special one-off electric race day at some point, so that might be a way of boosting numbers and interest, but most will go back to gas for regular racing.

I've heard HD are/will be carrying the Team Associated brand. This may be as an alternative to the Losi range they used to offer a few years back but don't now.

It does suck that the website hasn't been updated to reflect whats actually current.

Looking at a B4 in the near future

best place in nz for losi gear is rcbandit he carries alot of stock for them

associated is a joke here, you can get parts from Aussie faster then HD

Duratrax Acorn models in chch are the agent, but its faster to get parts from towerhobbies.

dunno about traxxas stuff sorry

my pick would be the rc10b4, its the one i want, but my duratrax pro is so close to the losi its not funny

plus noone other then me wants to race electric off road, i was the only one to enter in the summer series for electric. 8(

I think this is another one of those posts that getting a little too offtrack and less "ask bob" than maybe it should :P.
Ed, you should have made the journey to Manawatu for the opening weekend, more batteries than Nitro !! They are running offroad on the 4th weekend of each month (this weekend in fact) , im thinking of making it a regular trip to run 1/8th on another track close to home... but this weekend for me is the North Islands.. so it will be next month.

Now - back to "Asking Bob" please ;)
