Hi all, I need some advise Re: Clutch stuff

Are certain clutch springs better than others :?:

I have now broken 2 springs at different times, one of which was in the 20 min final we raced yesterday at Palmy. This in turn jams my clutch.
One set were Silver and the ones yesterday were Black.

I thought if the clutch shoes were excessively worn it may allow the spring to be ground down on the clutch bell but this second set of shoes haven't had too much racing so aren't overly worn.

How long should a set of aluminium shoes last compared to composite shoes :?:

I dont know what brand mine are as I bought the car second hand and the springs were provided. It is a Hong Nor so I am assuming that the springs are also HN.

Cheers...........Dave

Hi Dave

im biased towards xray.

i have a set of 1mm springs that i have been useing from day one, with none of them breaking, it has out lasted 1 set of hong nor aluminium shoes and now a set of xray cnc machined shoes.

you could always try one of these team orion v6 clutches Kelvin has got

the smaller version works well on the onroad cars.

have alway used the std plastic shoes, nylon or teflon or something and have never broken a spring, would guess as the alloy shoes are heavier that they put more load on the springs

I had default RTR shoes and springs in my Hyper last about a year. then I put in aluminium shoes and new springs (mugen or thunder tiger springs) and they lasted about 5 tanks of gas. admittedly I stuffed one of the shoes because the spring broke midway thru a tank of gas, and being the break-in, I finished the tank.

I've just bought Xray CNC alu shoes and 1mm springs to test to see how they perform. They are a bit odd because the Xray springs are way shorter than standard springs.

Hi Dave
Just get the New H.N alum shoes they come with 1 and 1.1 springs and only cost $39.90. The Xray ones seem to be the same but there clutch nut is a little different so you realy need to run a Xray flywheel. You can get away without bit I would only run Xray shoes with Xray flywheel

The old blues shoes you had are crap they bind on the pins and need to be debured every meeting. The new ones don't need to be touched.

Also if one spring brakes replace them all as the others will go soon

I'm under the impression you shouldn't mix carbon and aluminium shoes with the same clutch bell......due to the way each shoe type affects the inside of the clutch bell can have a negative impact on the opposite type. (Not an easy thing to describe in text)
